Ahoy mateys!
So shortly after my post a few weeks ago I was left without an internet connection so thus my lack of communication and no updates on my sites. But after some downtime, I should be back now, yippie!
And it couldn’t have come at a better time! Yesterday of course marking the Bright Star premiere in Cannes. Miss Cornish looked absolutely marvelous, what a v-i-s-i-o-n ladies and gentle viewers! She’s getting rave reviews for the movie and I’m so anxious to see the film already. It’s so good to see Abbie back and promoting a film again. I know it hasn’t been that long since Stop-Loss but since she didn’t exactly do much promoting for it per say (given the drama) but given she is one who brings me such joy I want more! All the time!
SAG’s Pics Made of Win

“I didn’t even buy a dress, I’m really, really shocked.” – Meryl Streep
Last night (by 4 hours ago) was the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards. I enjoyed watching and freaking out with friends while on MSN. Truly the most fun of all! It becomes impossible to decipher our conversations through the excitement. Again, another pleasing award show, really there has been so many amazing performances and movies this year even if your personal ‘pic’ doesn’t win, it’s hard to upset because there are so many good ones and I know for me, there are plenty I feel worthy of the win.
Although I truly I wanted Kate Winslet to win leading actress, I am thrilled Meryl Streep won over her if it had to be anyone. After seeing Doubt, she was amazing. The definition of fierce in that role – I truly feared that woman and at the end I just wanted to hug her! Her speech was my favorite of the night – Meryl is always so funny, sincere and happy. The bits about Viola and her dress especially made me laugh! She also genuinely seemed surprised and I loved that – but again she’s also such a great actress who knows – haha! “Awards mean nothing to me…” was so classic! This will be one of my award show favorites for Meryl, I’ll never forget “congratulations Natalie.”. Kate did indeed win for supporting so big happies for her. I’m also happy Sean Penn won for Milk, while I have stated before I would be happy with either him or Mickey, I’m glad he won because Mickey won at the Globes (and Penn at the Critic’s Choice, is this a balancing act we’re seeing!). Sean also gave another good speech of the night, “we don’t play gay or straight, we play human beings.” Wish Michael had won but I’m not surprised; he never wins (for Dex) after all. I’m overall pleased with the winners for the most part but I am disappointed (but not surprised) Slumdog won for ensemble. Truly loved the movie, but as an ensemble piece it doesn’t merit it for me… not in comparisons of something like Doubt; four performances totally deserving of Oscars, Milk; so many amazing, multi-dimensional non cliched characters or even Benjamin Button; what with all those incredible people Benjamin meets throughout his life. Other nice moments of the night, Linney saying “Don’t fondle the actor.”, the montage that featured a Six Feet Under clip! By far my favorite moment of the night: Josh Brolin pinches Franco’s butt while on stage!
Behold the massive picture spam after the cut, death by fandoms!

O.M.G. Franco and Winslet!!!

“You can be as mad as a mad dog at the way things went. You could swear, curse the fates, but when it comes to the end, you have to let go.” – The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Oscar nominations are not out!
I was truly shocked into a scream this year; severl times! First shocking moment: Kate Winslet nominated – for The Reader – for leading! Everyone was so sure it would be supporting, everyone was so sure it would be Revolutionary Road for sure and The Reader being more of the wildcard. Or everyone was so sure would get both! Shocking!!! I’m actually quite miffed she was not nominated for Revolutionary Road, sad about it in fact. I’ve watched the movie again the other night and I just love her in the movie so much, such a rich complex character, it saddens me that yet again, one of my favorite performances won’t be recognized – but I’m not all sad about it believe me! But I still have yet to see The Reader FYI. I’m thrilled Kate was at least nominated for leading somehow and Kate is such a leading lady it feels almost wrong to have her win for supporting! Quite honestly given the fact that the Academy is going all out for such a shock, they might as well go the distance and award her for it. Why else go for the shock and awe, wink wink ;)
Other leading ladies: Annie again (♥), I have to say back a few weeks ago before any award show the buzz was so high on Anne and Meryl (even before Critic’s win) that I felt it could always be one of them. But after the shocking Globes night and SAG still to come – it really has been anyone’s game and that is so thrilling! Much more fun than it being so predictable. I’m surprised but super happy Angelina Jolie was nominated. I was so sure she’d be snubbed again like she was last year for A Mighty Heart. Meryl is the other, very happy for her but don’t want her to win. I have Changeling here to watch but I have been so put off by the thinness in it lately. Honestly haven’t heard much about Melissa Leo although I have seen her in other things here and there. (And wowzas look at the upcoming projects on her filmo!)
